Our Story

In 2008, I lost my beloved companion, Nando to spinal cancer. Nando was a beautiful 140lb mixed breed of labrador, rottweiler & mastiff. Sadly, it was only 3 very short weeks from the time his cancer was discovered, until he left my side in this world. I was shattered...absolutely heartbroken. During the 3 weeks after his diagnosis, I devoted time to finding out more about cancer, trying anything I could to help my baby boy. What I discovered shook me to my core. I didn't know it at the time, but I was about to be delivered the greatest learning curve of my life. 

 

It first started with researching what could cause cancer in canines. Looking into this, I began to realize what an epidemic canine cancer truly is. Having experienced cancer and loss within my own family of humans also, I was determined to find out more. Any information I could get my hands on, I devoured. My husband jokes that I was on my way to find the cure for cancer! Struggling to understand WHY Nando got cancer in the first place, I thought of different things he may have been exposed to. Nothing was off limits, so I looked into anything I could think of. It's not a stretch to say that I questioned absolutely EVERYTHING. One topic always led to the next and before I knew it, I had slowly started making changes for my family. This was completely unintentional; I had only set out to understand cancer better. I pretty much thought that everything I was doing for my family was totally fine, therefore no need to change! It was slow at first and as I was learning more and more, we eventually switched out our water filtration system, the food we ate, where we shopped for groceries and overhauled our personal bodycare products.

 

JuicyforSure™ was born while on the quest to stock our home with personal bodycare products as close to nature as possible. I tried was what was available at local stores, searching the ones which had a health focus. This worked for only a quick minute, until I brought these products home and (I'm not kidding) researched every ingredient - how they were made, the chemical processes they had to go through, what was used to extract them from how they grew and what that means for us when their products are absorbed into our body. Some were seemingly better than their mainstream drugstore counterparts, but not so much when I looked further below the surface. Another problem I had was that I would find a product with what seemed like an okay ingredient list and then learn that they used something unacceptable to me for their preservative system. First of all, I didn't want nasty cancer-causing chemicals, and then what I discovered was just how drying these things were to my skin when I tried them. Lotion should be moisturizing, but here I was having to constantly re-apply it as my skin just felt so parched! Lip balms too! That's not cool. The other major issue I kept encountering was the lack of glass packaging. Everything was in plastic! Knowing that plastic leaches chemicals and parabens (xenoestrogens) into the products they contain, I never liked using lotions in plastic bottles. Plus, I could never get past the smell of plastic in the lotions. Yuck! There always seemed to be a deal breaker...and then I had an epiphany.

 

While pregnant with baby number two, I said, "That's it! No more buying lotions from stores!" It was the last time I ever bought any kind of lotion for my family and myself. I started JuicyforSure™ right in my very own kitchen, back in 2009.

 

Nando is missed in every aspect of my life however,

I now know that I was being guided to develop JuicyforSure™ Pure Skincare, for without Nando's passing, our company would have never been born. I don't know if I would have ever woken up and had my own a-ha moment, had he not passed away.
